About Me!

hello,

My name is Ron Clayman. I live in Des Moines, Iowa. I am a person who has been diagnosed with chronic depression. This diagnosis is only a couple years old, but I believe that I have suffered with it all my life. I am 59 years old! It has not been a life full of happiness.

My goal in writing this blog is twofold; to overcome the stigma of mental illness, and to encourage people who are having a problem to seek help. Personaly, I was overcome by the stigma of being labeled mentally ill, it kept me from seeking help, and it cost me dearly.

I am a big supporter of support groups. NAMI and DBSA have them. There are bunch more. They have saved my life! Particpate!

Fundamentally, I believe that each of us is responsible for our own wellness. If you talk to people who have made dramatic recoveries, they will relate the same epiphany. Doctors only practice medicine, and drugs can only help. If you are waiting for the magic pill, you are going to be disappointed.

I am ill, not stupid. Do not ever assume that with a mentally ill person! I decided to use my intellect to manage my illness. Its not rocket science. Anybody can do it.

I am the contact person for DBSA Des Moines. I have provided a link to our web page A couple of clicks and I’m easy to find.

I’ve been there, I can help.

Ron
